Home/Turn photos into a video
Turn your photos into a video — by asking, not editing.
You can turn your family photos into a video in Roon by asking in plain words. Tell Rooney what you want — “make a film of Grandma’s table” — and Rooney assembles it from the photos and videos your family already has, in date order. There is no editing and no uploading for each project.
Ask for the film you want
Rooney can create a recap video from any memory prompt. You do not build a timeline, pick a template, or choose clips one by one. You ask for a subject — a person, a place, a holiday, a year — and Rooney finds the moments across your whole library and puts them in order.
It works from photos and videos together. A still photo sits beside the short clip from the same day, because that is how the day actually happened. And there is no small per-project cap to work around. The film is built from the library you already gave Roon, not from a fresh upload of a few dozen files.
Chapters and threads play as films, too
A chapter is a written piece of your family’s story, built from your photos, video, and words. A thread is the same person, place, or thing gathered across the years — every first day of school, the garden in every summer. Chapters and threads can also play as films, so the story Rooney noticed can be watched, not only read.
Every January, Rooney gathers the year’s chapters into one Year Film. It is the year your family lived, in one sitting, made without anyone sitting down to edit it.
The honest limits
Roon adds no music track and no narration. Your family’s own words appear on screen as captions, and video clips play with their own sound — the real voices, not a voice-over. Roon also never animates a still photo into fake motion. A photo stays a photo, held long enough to actually see it.
A film of a story you asked for, not a slideshow of files set to music.
how it is different
No timeline. No template. No 50-photo cap.
Tools built for slideshows work project by project: you upload a set of photos, add a track, and export. Google Photos’ own movie tool, for example, caps a project at 50 photos and clips. Roon works the other way round. Your library is already there, so a film can draw on years of photos and video at once, and asking again costs you one sentence — not another evening of editing. Films are part of Roon at $99 a year for the whole family.
If you want a montage set to music, CapCut, Canva, and Animoto do that job well — use them for it. Roon makes the film you watch together on your own screen or TV setup, with your family’s words and sounds left as they are. See for yourself in the dashboard — ask for a film and watch what Rooney puts together.
plain answers
Questions, answered straight.
How do I make a video from my photos without editing?
Ask Rooney in plain words — for example, “make a film of Grandma’s table.” Rooney assembles the film from the photos and videos your family already has in Roon, in date order. Films are part of the paid Roon plan; the free test run has no films.
Can I watch it on my TV?
The film is a playable film you can watch on your family’s own screen or TV setup, the same way you would play any video at home. Roon does not offer a TV app, and we will not claim one.
Can Roon add music to the film?
No. Roon adds no music track and no narration, on purpose: your family’s own words appear as captions and clips play with their own sound. If you want a slideshow set to music, CapCut, Canva, or Animoto will serve you better.
How is this different from Google Photos Memories or Highlight videos?
Those are slideshows of files, chosen for you. A Roon film is a film of a story you asked for, built from photos and videos together across your whole library, with your family’s own words on screen. You name the subject; Rooney does the assembling.
Can it animate an old photo so Grandma smiles?
No, and Roon never will. Roon never fabricates motion or moments that did not happen. Animating a still photo into a smile is a different kind of tool, and it is not this one.
We're building this with a small group of families first.
Roon isn't open to everyone yet. We're letting in a limited first group — people who'll help shape it, get in at founding pricing, and keep that price for as long as they stay. Add your email and we'll be in touch as spots open.
You're on the list.
We'll email you the moment a spot opens. Thank you for wanting this to exist.
