Home/Preserve family photos

Preserve your family photos — and what they mean.

Backing up your photos keeps the files safe. It does not keep the memory safe. A photo whose story lives only in one person’s head is already half lost — the file survives, and nobody can say who is in it, where it was, or why everyone was laughing.

Preserving has two halves

The files: keep copies in more than one place, at full quality, in formats you can open without anyone’s permission. That part matters, and storage services are good at it.

The story: the names, the places, the reasons. That part has no backup today. It fades a little every year, and it goes all at once when the person who remembers is gone.

Roon is the second half. Bring the photos, video, and voice notes your family already has, and Rooney — the storyteller inside Roon — turns them into named, written chapters, built only from your family’s own words and dates. Rooney never invents a detail. If something is missing, it asks.

A photo outlives the memory of why it mattered. The story is the part that gets handed down.

how it works

Start with what you already have.

No new camera, no project to plan. Connect Google Photos or Apple Photos and Roon suggests what looks worth keeping — you approve every item that crosses over, and nothing is ever imported automatically. Or add photos, video, and voice directly. Rooney organizes everything into chapters with names — “The Summer of Dinosaurs,” not “July 2027” — and finds any memory later by person, place, time, or what’s in it.

And it stays yours: export everything, originals included, at any time, free, on every plan. Preserving something should never mean locking it away from you. Read what a family story is, or see how families drowning in photos start with the camera roll they have.

plain answers

Questions, answered straight.

Is cloud storage enough to preserve my family photos?

It preserves the files, and you should keep doing it. It does not preserve what the photos mean — who people are, what was happening, why it mattered. That lives in people’s memories. Roon writes that part down, from your family’s own words, while it can still be asked.

Do I have to move my photos out of Google Photos or iCloud?

No. Roon connects to Google Photos and Apple Photos and suggests what looks worth keeping. You approve every item that crosses over; nothing is imported automatically, and you can disconnect at any time. What you keep in Roon stays in Roon either way.

What if Roon shuts down someday?

You can export everything — originals included — at any time, starting on day one, on every plan including the free one. Don’t wait to find out; the export is there so you never have to trust us blindly.

What kinds of memories can I preserve?

Photos, video, voice notes and voice memos, and writing — in whatever form they arrived. Rooney combines them into the same chapters, because a memory is rarely just a photograph.

We're building this with a small group of families first.

Roon isn't open to everyone yet. We're letting in a limited first group — people who'll help shape it, get in at founding pricing, and keep that price for as long as they stay. Add your email and we'll be in touch as spots open.

No spam, no sharing your address. One email when your spot opens.

You're on the list.

We'll email you the moment a spot opens. Thank you for wanting this to exist.
