Home/Children's artwork & sayings

Save the artwork. Save the things they say.

The drawing is on the fridge, then in a pile, then — quietly, during a cleanup you feel guilty about — in the bin. The funniest sentence your kid ever said is in a text you sent yourself, three phones ago. Neither was lost because you didn’t care. They were lost because keeping them was its own project.

Two habits, ten seconds each

  • Photograph the artwork before it leaves the fridge. In Roon it lands in your child’s chapters, dated, next to the photos of the day it was made — not in a storage bin in the attic.
  • Dictate the quote the moment it happens. Voice or text, exactly as they said it. Voices change faster than faces, and exact words are the whole point.
  • Add the story, if there is one. One line counts: what the drawing is of, who the sentence was aimed at. If you skip it, Rooney may ask later — gently, once.

Rooney weaves these into the chapters alongside everything else, because a childhood is not made of portraits. It’s made of dinosaurs drawn at the kitchen table and sentences nobody wrote down.

We know something about a child’s drawing. Roon’s logo is one — drawn by the founder’s daughter at four, wild spikes and all. Our story →

why it belongs in the story

The pile becomes part of the story.

Artwork-only apps solve the bin problem and create a new folder problem. In Roon, the drawing of the family — with you, notably, three inches tall — sits inside the chapter about that year, next to the photos and the quote from the same week. Decades from now that’s the page they’ll turn to. It’s all part of keeping childhood as it happens, and of the family story as a whole.

plain answers

Questions, answered straight.

Do I have to throw the original artwork away?

That’s your call — many parents keep a small box of true favorites and photograph the rest. The point is the memory is kept either way: dated, in context, and findable, instead of depending on a pile surviving twenty years of moves.

How do I save the funny things my kids say?

Dictate or type the quote the moment it happens — voice notes keep the exact wording and, if you record them saying it, the voice too. It’s kept with the day it happened, inside their chapters.

Can both parents add artwork and quotes?

Yes. Up to 6 contributors can add to one family story on the Roon plan (2 on the free Start plan) — partners, grandparents, older kids.
