Home/StoryWorth vs Remento

StoryWorth vs Remento: typing, talking — or neither?

StoryWorth and Remento do the same job two ways. StoryWorth asks one person to write answers to weekly prompts by email for a year, for $59–$199 per storyteller, and prints a book. Remento asks them to speak the answers instead, for $99 a year per storyteller, and prints a book with QR codes that play their voice. The real difference between them is typing vs talking — and both end in a book.

The difference between them

Writing vs speaking. StoryWorth suits someone who likes to write and will sit down every week. Remento suits someone who would rather talk — speaking is easier for many parents, and you keep the sound of their voice, not just their words.

Who finishes. Both ask for a year of weekly answers, and that is the hard part. A parent who loves the habit can finish either one. A parent who does not will stall on both.

What you hold at the end. A printed book, either way — with StoryWorth, their writing; with Remento, their spoken stories, with QR codes to hear them.

The question underneath the question

Both are one guided project, for one person, and the project closes when the book ships. As one comparison put it, neither “is really designed to be an ongoing thing you keep adding to.” And if your parent will not do a year of prompts, neither product fixes that. In one family’s words, shared in Remento’s own journal, the parents “can’t do their homework either. Didn’t answer a single question for a year.”

the third option

What if it isn’t a book at all?

Roon is not a book product, and there is no year of prompts to finish. Rooney starts from the photos, video, and voice your family already has and writes chapters — a chapter is a named piece of your family’s written story. Rooney notices threads — a thread is the same person, place, or thing gathered across the years — asks an occasional question by text, with no app and no deadline, makes a January Year Film you play on your own screen, and holds sealed letters for later. It is $99 a year for the whole family, it never finishes, Rooney never invents a memory, and your story is never sold or used to train models. You can export everything free, at any time. plain answers

Questions, answered straight.

Which is better, StoryWorth or Remento?

It depends on your storyteller. Choose StoryWorth if they like to write. Choose Remento if they would rather talk, and you want their voice kept. If neither will keep up a year of prompts, neither book may get finished.

Which is better for a parent who hates writing?

Remento, between the two. Speaking an answer is easier than typing one, and their voice is preserved through QR codes in the book. In Roon they would not need to write either — contributors just reply to a text — but Roon makes a living story, not a book.

Which is cheaper for two parents?

StoryWorth is $59–$199 per storyteller, so two parents cost $118–$398. Remento is $99 per storyteller, so two parents cost $198 a year. Roon is $99 a year total — one price per family, not per person.

What if neither parent will answer prompts for a year?

Then a prompt book is at real risk of stalling, because the book is built only from those answers. Roon does not have that problem: the story starts from the photos and video your family already has, and Rooney’s occasional questions only fill gaps. No answers are required for the story to exist.

Is there an option that isn’t a book?

Yes — Roon. It starts from your existing archive instead of a blank prompt, covers the whole family for $99 a year, keeps adding chapters and threads across the years, and makes a film every January. It prints no book.
