Home/Remento alternative
A Remento alternative for families who don’t want a book.
Yes — if you don’t want a printed book. Remento asks one loved one to record answers to weekly prompts, then turns those recordings into a book. Roon does a different job: Rooney writes your whole family’s story from the photos, video, and voice you already have, and it keeps going. If a printed book of one person’s voice is what you want, Remento does that well.
What Remento does well
Remento is voice-first. Your loved one speaks their answers instead of typing them, their voice is kept, and the printed book carries QR codes — scan one and you hear them tell it. It costs $99 a year for one storyteller.
Where Roon is different
- It starts from what you already have. Remento starts from zero — nothing exists until someone answers a prompt. Roon starts from your camera roll and your old voice notes, and Rooney turns them into chapters — a chapter is a named piece of your family’s written story.
- One price for the whole family. Roon is $99 a year per family, not per person. Remento is $99 a year per storyteller, so two parents cost twice as much.
- It does not end. Rooney keeps writing new chapters, notices threads — a thread is the same person, place, or thing gathered across the years — makes a January Year Film you play on your own screen, and holds sealed letters for a future date.
No one has to keep up. Contributors answer Rooney’s questions by replying to a text — no app, no login. Rooney never invents a memory. Your family’s story is never sold and never used to train models, and you can export everything free, at any time.
Remento ends with a book on a shelf. Roon is a story that is still being written.
the honest trade
What you give up: the printed book.
Roon does not print a book, and we won’t dress that up. If holding that book is the point, choose Remento — it does that job well. If the point is a story that covers everyone, starts from real photos instead of a blank prompt, and is still growing in ten years, that is the job Roon was built for. See for yourself how Rooney turns a family’s photos into chapters.
plain answers
Questions, answered straight.
Is Roon a Remento alternative if I don’t want a book?
Yes — that is exactly who it is for. Roon makes no book. It makes a living, written story of your whole family from the media you already have, with new chapters, a film every January, and letters held for future dates.
What happens to the recordings in Remento vs Roon?
In Remento, the recordings are the product: they are printed into a book, and QR codes in the book play the storyteller’s voice. In Roon, voice you already have — and voice answers given by text — are kept with the story, and Rooney writes them into chapters alongside your photos and video.
Does my parent need an app?
No. In Roon, contributors answer by replying to a text message, the way they would reply to you. There is no app for them to learn, no login, and no deadline — an unanswered question never expires.
How much does each cost for a whole family?
Remento is $99 a year per storyteller, so two parents are $198 a year. Roon is $99 a year per family — or $12 a month — for everyone in the story, at one price.
Does Roon print a book?
No. Roon has no printed book. What it keeps is the living story itself, the January Year Film, sealed letters, and your full export — everything, downloadable at any time, free. If a printed book matters most, use Remento or StoryWorth.
We're building this with a small group of families first.
Roon isn't open to everyone yet. We're letting in a limited first group — people who'll help shape it, get in at founding pricing, and keep that price for as long as they stay. Add your email and we'll be in touch as spots open.
You're on the list.
We'll email you the moment a spot opens. Thank you for wanting this to exist.
