Home/Letters to your child
Letters to your child, delivered by the calendar.
The paper tradition is lovely: a prompted letter, sealed in an envelope, labeled “open when you turn eighteen.” Millions of those letter books have been sold. The envelopes get lost in moves, in drawers, in decades. And nobody reminds you the day has come.
How it works in Roon
- Write or record it now — a letter, a voice note, a few honest lines. One paragraph counts.
- Seal it for the day you choose: an 18th birthday, a wedding, a first day of school, a day decades from here.
- It stays hidden until that date — part of your family’s story, kept with everything else that matters.
- Rooney reminds you as letters come due, so the day doesn’t slip past in a busy year.
What to write (steal these starts)
- “Here is what you were like at four, before you could possibly remember it…”
- “Here is what I hope for you — and the part I might get wrong…”
- “Here is what ordinary life looked like the year you were small: the house, the dog, the price of things, us.”
- “Here is the advice I’d give you now, knowing you’ll read it as someone else entirely.”
“Your dad left this for today.” Some sentences are worth scheduling.
part of the story
A letter is a chapter addressed to the future.
In Roon, sealed letters aren’t a separate app or a box in a drawer — they live inside your family’s story, beside the chapters about the child they’re written to. Write one for a newborn during the years you’re already keeping, or for a parent, a partner, yourself at eighty. The story keeps them all, and keeps them safe: export everything, any time.
plain answers
Questions, answered straight.
When should my child open their letters?
Whenever you choose: an 18th birthday is the classic, but weddings, graduations, first days of school, or a hard day far in the future all work. You set each letter’s date when you seal it.
Can anyone read a sealed letter early?
A sealed letter stays hidden until its date arrives. It’s part of your family’s kept story — private, never sold, never used to train models — and you can export everything at any time.
What should I write in a letter to my child?
Ordinary life, honestly: what they were like, what the house and the days looked like, what you hope for them, what you got wrong. Specifics age beautifully; generalities don’t. The prompts on this page are a good start.
Can I write letters to people other than my child?
Yes — to a parent, a partner, a grandchild not yet born, or yourself. Any letter can be sealed for any future date.
We're building this with a small group of families first.
Roon isn't open to everyone yet. We're letting in a limited first group — people who'll help shape it, get in at founding pricing, and keep that price for as long as they stay. Add your email and we'll be in touch as spots open.
You're on the list.
We'll email you the moment a spot opens. Thank you for wanting this to exist.
