Apple Photos holds your library. Roon tells its story.

Same honesty as we’d give anyone: Apple Photos is a fine library, and Roon is not a replacement for it or for iCloud backup. What Apple’s Memories give you is a slideshow. What they can’t give you is the story.

The layer Apple doesn’t build

  • Written chapters with names — from your photos, words, and voice, in sentences your grandkids can read.
  • Questions by text — gentle and specific, including questions that come back every year and a weekly favorite-photo ritual.
  • Patterns noticed for you — patterns across years, surfaced with evidence, not just “on this day” resurfacings.
  • Sealed letters and a January Year Film — a story that reaches into the future and gathers the family in the present.
  • The whole household — Roon works across mixed-device families; not everyone’s life is in one company’s library.

Connecting Apple Photos follows the same rule as everything in Roon: Roon suggests, you approve, nothing is imported automatically, and you can disconnect at any time.

Your library is the raw material. Roon is the storyteller.

who this is for

When “Memories” isn’t remembering.

If what you want is more gigabytes or a different backup, this isn’t your page — storage services do that job. If you’ve watched Apple’s auto-made movies and felt how close they come without ever saying anything, you’ve found the gap Roon fills. See also the Google Photos version of this page — the story layer is the same; only the library differs.

plain answers

Questions, answered straight.

Is Roon a replacement for Apple Photos or iCloud?

No. Keep both for your library and backup. Roon adds the story layer: written chapters, prompted questions, patterns noticed across years, sealed letters, and a yearly film. It is an addition to your library, not a substitute for it.

Does Roon automatically import from Apple Photos?

No. It suggests what looks worth keeping; you approve every item that crosses over. Nothing is ever pulled behind your back, and disconnecting changes nothing about what you’ve already kept.

My family has both iPhones and Android. Does Roon work?

Yes — one family story can draw from everyone’s photos, whatever phone they carry. Up to 6 contributors can add to a story on the Roon plan.
