Home/Baby book alternative

The baby book alternative for parents with no spare minutes.

Almost every parent has one: a beautiful, blank baby book. It failed you, not the other way around — it asked a sleep-deprived person for calligraphy-grade homework, and every empty page since has been a small guilt trip.

Roon starts where you already are

You are already taking the photos. Roon’s storyteller, Rooney, turns the photos, short videos, and voice notes you already have into named, written chapters — no blank pages, no catching up at midnight. Missed the first six months? Roon backfills: it builds the beginning of the story from the photos on your phone from before you ever signed up.

The gentle parts, by text

A few times a week, Rooney texts a specific question — the kind your kid will want answered in thirty years. Some questions come back every year, so “what do you want to be when you grow up?” at three, four, and five becomes a time-lapse. Once a week, you pick your favorite photo of the week. Answer in seconds, by text, photo, or voice. Unanswered questions never expire — there is no streak to break and no page left blank.

One Roon price covers the whole family — every child, both parents, the grandparents’ stories too. Not per child. Not childhood-only.

an honest comparison

Built for childhood. Not only childhood.

Lovely apps exist that focus only on the early years, charging per child and starting from the day you download them. Roon is a different shape: $99 a year for the whole family, for their whole lives, starting from the library you already have — the newborn weeks you already photographed, last year’s birthday, the grandparents’ visits. And when the kids are grown, the story doesn’t graduate or end. It becomes letters they open at eighteen and a family story they hand down.

Also kept, automatically: the artwork and the funny things they say — the other things baby books never had room for.

plain answers

Questions, answered straight.

My baby is already two. Is it too late to start?

No — starting late is exactly what Roon is built for. Rooney builds the first chapters from the photos already on your phone, so the months you missed are backfilled from your own camera roll, not reconstructed from memory at midnight.

Do I pay per child?

No. Roon is $99 a year (or $12 a month) per family — every child, both parents — Rooney follows 3 people closely (add another storyline for $24 a year), up to 6 people can contribute, and anyone in your photos still appears in the story. There is no per-child charge, ever.

How much time does it take each week?

Minutes. Rooney texts a few specific questions a week and asks for one favorite photo. You answer by text, photo, or voice, whenever you get to it. Nothing expires and nothing piles up as guilt.

Can grandparents be part of it?

Yes. Grandparents can contribute photos and answer questions by text or voice — and their answers become part of the same story, which matters more with every year. More on recording your parents’ stories.
